Professional Development and Education

Dr. Gray presents at district, state, national and international conferences to educate teachers, SLPs, college faculty and administrators about evidence-based approaches to language and literacy instruction. She has presented at annual conventions of the Society for the Scientific Study of Reading (SSSR), the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA), the International Literacy Association (ILA), the Massachusetts Association of Teachers of Speakers of Other Languages (MATSOL), and American Teacher Educators (ATE).

Research

Dr. Gray conducts research that investigates the effects of teaching phonemes (sounds) and morphemes (base words, prefixes and suffixes) on literacy skills. She is currently conducting studies that present graphic organizers (semantic maps) to teach academic vocabulary to K-6 graders, adolescents and young adult English Learners. She is also studying the effects of the using content rubrics to teach writing to undergraduate and graduate students, and embedding student research experiences in undergraduate coursework.
