Does your child have difficulty with:
- Decoding words
- Spelling words
- Understanding vocabulary
- Finding the right words
- Formulating sentences
- Reading passages fluently
- Comprehending what they read
- Writing sentences, paragraphs, papers
Evaluations:
Dr. Gray evaluates your child’s speaking and listening (spoken language) skills according to the age and abilities of the child, including their skills in semantics (meanings of words and sentences), syntax (formulation and comprehension of sentence structure), phonology/morphology (production and awareness of words’ sounds and meaningful word parts), and pragmatics (social communication and discourse).
She evaluates your child’s reading and writing (written language) skills according to the age and abilities of the child. For reading issues, she assesses their ability to decode unfamiliar words (word attack), read words (word recognition), understand words’ meanings (reading vocabulary), read fluently (oral reading fluency), and comprehend what they read (reading comprehension). For writing issues, she assesses their ability to encode words (spelling), write simple and complex sentences, paragraphs and multiple paragraphs in grade-appropriate writing genres, such as expository, descriptive, persuasive, and narrative writing.
Treatment:
Based on the results of an evaluation (prior evaluations may be used), Dr. Gray develops a treatment plan with long-term goals and specific objectives. If the child already has an IEP, those goals and objectives may be addressed or enhanced. Treatment focuses on the child’s needs in spoken language (semantics, syntax, phonology/morphology, and pragmatics) and written language, including reading and writing.
